Theme of the Week is a post where we ask readers like you to comment with ideas for a particular theme. What ideas and suggestions do you have? What game, craft, apparel choice, theme meal, evening activity, special event, song, skit, or anything else would you do at camp if your theme was…
Under the Big Top
Below are five ideas. Leave your suggestions in the comments area below.
- Juggling class
- Have a counselor wear a bear suit and ride a bike.
- Have a special circus performing troupe come to camp.
- Are there places you can go near camp that have a trapeze? Take all the campers or just the older campers.
- Hold a talent show (or circus performance).

Using face paint- turn the camper’s faces into clowns faces. Allow the campers to dress up in big, funny and colorful clothing, shoes and hats.
These are all really great ideas! I was also thinking of having all of the children work on an act of their choice and bringing it all together at the end of the week for a circus show…of course we would have to include face painting, snow cones and popcorn. I also came across a program for children who are clowns and they are offering a free show this summer so my field trip will fit in with our theme!
This site has a variety of activities for a carnival — end the week with a circus themed carnival event with a variety of stations and activities.

There’s nothing like a good bean bag toss. 🙂
If U have gymnastics mats, try out acrobatic skills. I also put on a circus for parents at the end of the week when they went to pick up the kids. We had cotton candy, popcorn, and prizes, and then the kids each performed in a act
Great suggestions, Willa.
