Theme of the Week – Wind and Sea

Theme of the Week is a post where we ask readers like you to comment with ideas for a particular theme. What ideas and suggestions do you have? What game, craft, apparel choice, theme meal, evening activity, special event, song, skit, or anything else would you do at camp if your theme was…

Wind and Sea

Below are five ideas. Leave your suggestions in the comments area below.

  1. Have the campers try different types of fishing; pole, net, spear, deep sea, etc.
  2. Sailing, sailing and more sailing.
  3. Build a raft competition. Start with 15 minutes of planning.
  4. Poop Deck is one of my favorite games – and it’s perfect for this theme. Create three areas/squares large enough for the whole group that is playing. The middle area is the “Main Deck”. The other two areas are the “Poop Deck” and the “Quarter Deck”. Everyone starts in the main deck. The leader calls out either “poop deck” or “quarter deck”. Everyone rushes to the appropriate deck. The last person to step across the line is out of the game. Play continues until only the winner remains. If the leader calls out the deck on which everyone is standing, anyone who steps across the line is out.
  5. Have a knot tying class.

  • Duct tape boat races are so much fun! All you need is cardboard and a ton of duct tape, put together a small boat for one or two people and just cover it in duct tape! You can do this in small or large groups, by cabins, etc. In the past I’ve had the counselors race them for safety purposes since I had a younger camp but in the right setting (pool) & with the right precautions I think the campers could race in them as well.
