Theme of the Week – Knights and Princesses

Theme of the Week is a post where we ask readers like you to comment with ideas for a particular theme. What ideas and suggestions do you have? What game, craft, apparel choice, theme meal, evening activity, special event, song, skit, or anything else would you do at camp if your theme was…

Knights and Princesses

Below are five suggestions. What are yours? Leave your ideas in the comments area below.

  1. Send the knights on a quest to find Merlin, Excalibur or a dragon egg.
  2. Play King or Queen Says (instead of Simon Says).
  3. Teach campers how to make swords out of balloons. If you’re really good you can make a balloon dragon.
  4. Have a Jester contest where campers (or staff) wear a jester’s hat and go in front of the King and Queen to perform magic, juggling or comedy act.
  5. Have a Masquerade Ball. Campers and staff all wear masks and campers are taught traditional dances (or silly Knight and Princess dances from Wonderland).

  • We awarded our cleanest cabin groups the privilege of sitting at a special table in our dining hall during our medieval themed camps. We built a raised stage platform in the corner of the dining hall and put stage flats behind it with a stone wall painted on them. The round table had a royal red colored table cloth on it and the campers had medieval goblets to drink from. We did it with minimal cost and it was a big hit with the campers.
