Not long ago I came across a video on the Summer Camp Professionals Facebook group that showed a bunch of marbles racing down a sand path.
I immediately thought it was a fantastic idea.
Imagine cabin groups choosing their favorite marble out of a tub of marbles and entering it into the weekly Marble Run Challenge. The campers and staff can be lined up along the course, or at the finish line, cheering for their marble.
If it’s filmed, it could be shown on a screen later.
While I couldn’t find the original video that was posted, here is one that is similar.
But what if you don’t have a hill full of sand or dirt to do this?
As I searched for similar ideas on YouTube, I came across other videos like the one below that don’t require a sandy or dirt course (though you will have to purchase some marble runs).
For around $50 you can start a whole new program.

But marbles aren’t the only things you can race. Let’s take a look at Hot Wheels (or Matchbox) vehicles.
The track that is used in the video above is the Hot Wheels Super 6-Lane Raceway and you can get some extra track for a longer run. Think of how much fun it would be to run a tournament where cabin groups choose a couple of vehicles to race.
- The Hot Wheels Super 6-Lane Raceway sets the stage for awesome 6-car racing along 8 feet...
- Includes 6 Hot Wheels vehicles to start the competition right out of the box.
There you have it, three new programs or events that you can run at camp with ease.
If you decide to create a marbles or Hot Wheels race at camp, or in your after-school program, I would love to see a video of it.
